LBAPS seeks a Special Education Attorney to advocate for children with autism and other developmental disabilities, ensuring they receive legally mandated services, support and entitlements. This is a full-time position in Brooklyn, NY.
Responsibilities
- Advocate at IEP meetings, due-process hearings and appeals; challenge service denials, improper placements and compliance violations.
- Ensure access to mandated ABA and special education services under IDEA, Section 504 and applicable state law.
- Draft and review legal correspondence, complaints and settlement agreements.
- Build cases with clinical staff, case managers and families; keep current on relevant education law and regulations.
- Represent clients before administrative bodies, school districts and government agencies.
Qualifications
- J.D. and active New York bar admission are required.
- Special education law, disability rights or education advocacy experience is preferred.
- Litigation, negotiation and written advocacy skills are preferred.
- Commitment to children with disabilities and their families, and ability to handle a high-volume caseload accurately and promptly.
Compensation and working arrangements
